The Gland, a river of pure water
The origin of the name “Gland” comes from the Gaulish “glano” meaning “pure”.
The Gland has its source in the municipality of Conzieu, at an altitude of 370 m. After a course of 16.3 km, it flows into the Rhône River.
Its waters were once used by a marble sawmill, at the foot of the Glandieu Waterfall.
Clean energy
The Glandieu hydroelectric power plant produces 2.2 GWh per year.
For this, a thermal power plant would consume 489 tons of oil and release 1,467 tons of CO2.
A coal-fired power plant would release 1,833 tons of CO2 for the same energy produced.
This is the equivalent of the domestic consumption of approximately 667 individuals.
