The hydroelectric power plants of Forces Motrices du Gelon contribute to the current and future energy mix.
Our hydroelectric power plants help support the electricity grid, making it possible to accommodate more intermittent renewable energies and thus guarantee the country’s energy sovereignty. The development of hydroelectricity is currently carried out by the construction of micro-power plants, mainly run-of-river, like those built or developed by FMG. Our company thus contributes on its scale to the national effort to combat global warming, by producing in a decarbonized manner the equivalent of the consumption of approximately 10,000 French people each year. Technological innovations, the arrival of new equipment and innovative construction methods make it possible to equip or develop greenfield or existing sites while respecting their environment.
The photovoltaic farms of Forces Motrices du Gelon make it possible to enhance degraded sites while producing green and responsible energy.
In France, solar energy represents a production of 12.6 TWh, 2.5% of the French energy mix. Still largely underexploited, this energy is set to grow significantly in the coming years. Since 2016, our company has undertaken to develop ground-based photovoltaic projects and aims to install its first “agrivoltaic” farms soon. The solar parks developed by FMG include a “co-use” dimension: producing renewable electricity and providing grazing areas for flocks of sheep or foraging areas for bees. In areas affected by wolf predation, the solar parks, made up of several fenced hectares, offer a secure space for flocks.
The good integration in their local landscape is also one of the major axis of study of our projects. We thus ensure their reduced or even non-existent visibility from high points such as plateau or tourist sights, taking care not to distort the view of and from the sites involved.
Optimal energy efficiency
FMG hydroelectric power plants display excellent efficiency. Between 80 and 90% of the kinetic energy of water is converted into electricity. The resource is thus optimally exploited. In addition, FMG power plants are automated and configured to adjust their power as finely as possible according to the flow of waterways.
- Automation capable of sending warning in the event of an anomaly before a breakdown occurs, quickly preventing in the event of a breakdown, or of alerting in the event of unusual natural events, such as a flood, or extreme temperatures.
- Video surveillance of facilities
- Local guarding, regular and systematic passage of technicians in the installations.
The data collected and analysed allows constant improvements or innovations applied to new installations as well as to older ones.
